A large format gatefold card house (25 x 21cms, opening to 25 x 42cms) illustrated by Alice Pattullo, and beautifully lithographed in England using spot lithography on 300gm matt card. Issued to celebrate the lives of Eric Ravilious & Edward Bawden and their time at Brick House.
Look inside the house and see the rooms, the studio, the press, the kitchen with the hen perched on the range, Bawden’s wallpapers and much more. A sheet of humorous cut-outs is enclosed too, of Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden alongside their gardening tools, cricket bats, alphabet mugs, and of course cats! Enjoy the ‘inward laugh’.
Edward Bawden & Eric Ravilious lived at Brick House for a few short years in the 1930s. It was a time for painting, gardening, walking and parties. Along with their wives, Charlotte & Tirzah, they filled every room with pattern, paintings and objects. At weekends artist friends would visit, and they too settled in Great Bardfield, establishing a thriving artists’ colony in this corner of North East Essex.
Alice Pattullo is an illustrator and printmaker working in East London. Her work can be found at the V & A, The Higgins, John Soames Museum, Cecil Sharp House and in the pages of design and illustration magazines, Alice is inspired by the folk traditions of England and influenced by the mid-century printmaking of artists such as Edward Bawden and John Piper.
