Noah’s Ark is a press-out and assemble book, with a series six plates of die-cut linocut animals, the Ark, and Mr & Mrs Noah. It also contains a set of assembly instructions and Noah’s Alphabet of the Ark. It measures 260 x 187mm and is bound with a linen cloth spine. It was devised by John Miles, in 1958, first published in the Puffin Picture Book series.
The Special Edition of 100 copies has an additional set of sheets to assemble, and an extra 32 page booklet, The Story of Noah’s Ark and the Puffin Cut-Out series. This additional book has been published in association with The Penguin Collectors Society.
It was the first book that the typographer and designer, John Miles made during him time under Hans Schmoller at Penguin. It was made using linocut, and was first published in the Puffin Picture Book series in 1958.
This new edition has the original set of instructions, as well as the Noah’s Ark ABC, It has been printed in England and die-cut at Swallowtail Print. The original crude die-cutting has been improved with modern technology.
It is published in a small edition of 600 copies, and an extra Special Edition of 100 copies.
